Institute history

The Institute of Applied Mathematics and Automation (hereinafter the Institute) was established by the decree of the RF State Committee on Science and Higher Education on August 26, 1991.
On June 29, 1993, the Institute became part of the Kabardino-Balkarian Scientific Center RAS by order No. 143 of the Presidium of Russian Academy of Sciences. On December 18, 2007, in accordance with the decree of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences No. 274 the Institute was renamed Institution of the Russian Academy of Sciences Institute of Applied Mathematics and Automation of the Kabardino-Balkarian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
December 13, 2011 by Decree of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences No. 274 – to the Federal State Budgetary Institution of Science Institute of Applied Mathematics and Automation of the “Kabardino-Balkarian Scientific Center” of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In accordance with the Federal law September 27, 2013 № 253-FZ “On the Russian Academy of Sciences, reorganization of the state academies of sciences and Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation” and the order of the Government of the Russian Federation dated December 30, 2013 № 2591-p, the Institute was transferred to Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations (FASO Russia).
In accordance with the Order of FASO Russia No. 141 of June 30, 2014, the IAMA was renamed to the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Institute of Applied Mathematics and Automation”.
In accordance with the order of the FASO Russia of December 29, 2015, No. 698 “On the reorganization of the Federal State Budgetary Institution of Science of the Kabardino-Balkarian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the form of affiliation to it of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution“ Institute of Applied Mathematics and Automation ”, State Budgetary Institution of Science of the Institute of Informatics and Problems of the Regional Administration of the Kabardino-Balkarian Scientific Center RAS, Federal State Budgetary Institution “Kabardino-Balkarian Institute for Humanities Research” and the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Kabardino-Balkarian Institute of Agriculture””.
In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 215 “On the Structure of Federal Executive Bodies” dated May 15, 2018 and the Order of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1293-r dated June 27, 2018, the Kabardino-Balkarian Scientific Center was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The main areas of research conducted at the Institute:

  • Methods of computational mathematics;
  • fractional calculus and its application;
  • modeling of physical processes in fractal media and nanosystems;
  • development of the theory and algorithms of neuroinformatics and machine learning;
  • non-local differential equations and equations of mixed type;
  • mathematical problems of CAD, methods of network optimization and optimal control;
  • mathematical modeling of geophysical and physico-biological processes in systems with a fractal structure and memory.
